History of Boscean,
Boscean was built in 1912 as the residence of Dr Robert Garven Nesbitt at a cost of just over £2,600 ! Some of the "older" locals still refer to it as "The Doctors House". Dr Nesbit married into a wealthy local family - the Harvey-James's who owned Botallack Mine from 1835 - 1895. He died in 1923 and is buried in the town graveyard. There's a stained glass window dedicated to him in St Just Parish Church. Much of the wood in the hotel was removed from HMS Camperdown when the vessel was broken up in Swansea in 1911. We are led to believe that the wooden canopy over the fireplace in the hall was from above the Captains bed - it even has a secret panel.
